♪♫♬ Damn it feels good to be a...saver...again. It's that time of month to check the numbers and see where my net worth stands. Before we dive in, I just want to say: it was a good month! That should be enough of a hint to let you know it's more than last month. My net worth at the end of November is...

October 2017 Update

I'm a day or two late with this post, but honestly, I wasn't paying much attention. With the new job, I've just been concentrating on the work and making a good impression. It seems to be paying off. Unlike my last job, my bosses actually show appreciation for my efforts, which, in turn, makes me want to do a good job. As a matter of fact, my immediate boss let me leave early today because he said I was knocking it out of the park. Woohoo! Hopefully that will translate into a raise.

But, that's not what this post is about. It's time to look at my net worth and see whether I'm on track to retire in a few years. So, let's dive in and see how things are going. My net worth at the end of October is...

September 2017 Update

First and foremost, I'd just like to say that it's official. I've rejoined the working world. I get up early, commute to work, and spend 8 hours in a cubicle Monday through Friday. I'll admit, I didn't miss it, but in order to reach my goal of not having to continue with this routine until I drop dead, it's necessary. I've almost been on the job for a month. As of this update, I'm just a couple of days shy. The new job is pretty sweet so far, and that's great news. I just hope it continues to be enjoyable. But all this can be unpacked in another post. You're most likely here to see where my net worth stands so let's get to it. Currently, my net worth is...

August 2017 Update

August has come and gone, leaving us with a grand Labor Day weekend, which, coincidentally will be my last days of unemployment. Hooray! I will finally get to reverse this trend of slowly draining my savings. I'm very much looking forward to socking away money again, of watching my net worth climb instead of gradually sliding down and to the right. So, let's go take a look at the damages. My net worth for this report is...

Reasons to FIRE: Job Experience 2.5

WARNING! This series of blog posts is my way of airing grievances I have with my current job, previous bad experiences throughout my career, and horrible bosses and/or coworkers I've had the misfortune of dealing with. These experiences are chief motivating factors for why I want to achieve FIRE. If you don't want to read negative remarks from an adult who has come to despise his work/job, then I am giving you ample warning in this disclaimer to turn back now.

Other posts in this series:
Reasons to FIRE: Job Experience 1
Reasons to FIRE: Job Experience 2

What follows is an extension of Job Experience 2. It is the finale in that tragic saga. So, if you haven't read that post, I encourage you to do so now so you'll have a clearer understanding of what kind of demented soul we're dealing with here. Now, without further ado, I give you...the end of an era...

A Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Finally, I can breathe a sigh of relief. I've been unemployed since the middle of January. Some of that was by choice, some of it was out of my control. I intend to unpack the details in this post.

July 2017 Update

Well, here we are in August, so it means it's time to look at how my finances fared since July. I'm still unemployed (more on that later), so I'm trying my damndest to hold onto what I was able to accumulate previously. Let's take a look at the numbers, shall we? My net worth at the end of July was...

June 2017 Update

Happy Independence Day! My apologies for posting a couple of days late. I've been relaxing over the weekend after a grueling week running the job-search gauntlet. Meeting with potential employers and trying to sell myself is a good reminder of why I'm pursuing FI/RE. I'm so sick of the dog-and-pony show. But, of course, I'm nowhere near retirement in a financial sense, so I have to put on my big boy pants and go through with it anyway. So, let's jump in and see where I stand this month so I can get off the computer and commence with relaxing. My net worth as of today is...

May 2017 Update

I haven't spent as much time obsessing over my spreadsheets and "numbers" since I lost my job back in January. Mainly because I've had no money coming in, so it's not as exciting to watch the savings I accumulated slowly dwindle as I use it to live off of. Also, I've been enjoying the downtime by traveling (just got back from London last week) and visiting with friends and family before we move to another state. And the impending move! I've recently been focusing on helping my wife pack up all of our worldly belongings, which sucks but has to be done.

With that said, you can probably understand why I haven't paid meticulous attention to my stash. Although I probably should have and, under normal unemployment circumstances, I probably would have. So, this also means I haven't compiled any other posts on this blog about ways to maximize my savings, etc. I promise, those type of posts will be forthcoming once we get settled in our new location. For now, there's just too much to focus on outside of that. However, I have remained vigilant about posting my monthly net worth, and will continue to do so.

Without further ado, let's take a look at where my net worth stands 6 months into unemployment...

April 2017 Update

It's been a busy couple of weeks as I prepare to move to NY. I've been visiting friends and family and my wife and I just arrived home after a week in Albany where we signed our lease. Now that that update's been made, let's look at the numbers for this month...

March 2017 Update

April kind of snuck up on me. I wasn't prepared to do a net worth post when, today, I noticed I was overdue for one by a couple of days, so pardon how I've thrown this one together. Still, looking at the amount I have now versus what I reported last month leaves me feeling somewhat pleased. So, without further ado, let's delve in. My net worth as of the first of April is...

February 2017 Update

Well, it's that time again. Time for another net worth update. If you recall from last month's report, I lost my job. I still do not have a job, but things haven't been that bad. Actually, I may have some good news to report by next month's report. So let's hop right in and see what my net worth is after a little over a month and a half of being unemployed. My net worth as of today is...

January 2017 Update

Well, I was late making this update, but that's because I was busy with something else that I'll explain later. It looks like 2017 is going to be a big departure from the norm that was last year. This post marks the beginning of that change, so without further ado, let's see where I stand and what's in store for the near future. My net worth for January 2017 was...

December 2016 Update

December has come and gone and, in its wake, put another year in our rearview mirror. December is a month I both dread and love; I love the time off work, spent with family and friends but I hate that it is traditionally a month of higher spending (something I'm trying to curb with some tact). While I don't necessarily predict to save a respectable amount this time of year, I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Without further ado, let's get to the matter at hand. Wrapping up the year, my net worth is...
